Protect the Planet Bag
One day I forgot to bring my reusable grocery bag to shop at Trader Joe’s, so I had to use their paper bag. I decided to transform it because of its cool print and durability. For the bag’s front flap, I painted a globe and plant alongside ‘Protect the Planet’ in bold red. Underneath, the front panel is a collage of pieces from the original Trader Joe’s bag, some that I varnished to create contrasting textures. The back panel has a painted red blossom tree and forms a sleeve that holds a laptop or sketchbook. It also has an adjustable strap that reads ‘please recycle this bag’ for a crossbody silhouette. Each panel is sealed with a protective Duralar film. The bag is heat, water, and stain resistant with two layers of canvas foundation and a printed flannel lining to represent the oceans. Lastly, it is tagged with a Lady May woven label designed by me.
