Versace Gothic Surrealism
Software: Premiere Pro
Music: Prague Cello Quartet - Phantom of the Opera, Siouxsie and the Banshees - Slowdive, Kendrick Lamar - XXX (feat. U2)
As a supplement to my Versace Gothic Surrealism project, I created a video ad campaign to match the theme of Gothic Surrealism. The opening shot starts with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) from Stranger Things watching a tv for what seems like the first time, creating a sense of curiosity. The body of the video begins when she turns on the tv, and the viewer watches the screen as if they were in her shoes.
The show focuses on the campaign’s mega influencer, Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams from Wednesday, as she goes on a journey of finding a beautiful gothic Versace dress and wearing it while dancing like Siouxsie Sioux. Siouxsie and the Banshees were a highly influential music group in the goth and rock genres and serve as the inspiration behind the look in this video as well as the Gothic Surrealism theme. Periodically, the video flips back to Eleven watching the screen to remind the viewer that they are part of the audience. At the end, the show takes a dark turn as Wednesday runs through the woods covered in blood, and Eleven quickly switches off the tv, immediately leaving the room looking astonished. This alludes to a sense of urgency, persuading the audience to buy a goth dress for themselves as it leads into the runway segment displaying Versace’s collection.
I do not own any of the media in this video.
